Michael Fine, M.D. & Umberto Crenca
Moved by the plight of those experiencing homelessness in our community, local author Michael Fine, M.D. penned a short story called "The Sad and Lonely Death of Katydid Desrosiers" which he then asked local artist Umberto Crenca to illustrate.
The creative duo then produced a limited-edition, signed, and numbered book, packaged with five full-color prints of Providence street scenes, which they donated to Crossroads to benefit our Roads to Home Capital Campaign.
"I was very angry as I knew that people might lose their lives and so I channeled this anger and used it to fuel my writing."
- Michael Fine, M.D.
Crossroads launched this unique philanthropic collaboration last October at an inspiring event held at the Providence Art Club. The event featured a thought-provoking panel discussion led by Rhode Island Foundation President & CEO David Cicilline, during which Michael, Umberto and Crossroads' former CEO Karen Santilli discussed our state’s current homeless crisis.
