PROVIDENCE, RI - Crossroads Rhode Island was recognized at Preserve Rhode Island’s annual Rhody Awards at Ochre Court in Newport this month. Crossroads was honored for its Crossroads Family Housing project – a multi-property project in Providence which provides permanent housing for 30 families that previously experienced homelessness.

“We are honored to be one of this year’s Rhody Award winners. The Crossroads Family Housing initiative in Providence is a central part of our work to provide families experiencing homelessness with access to safe, affordable, and permanent housing. We know that the only solution for homelessness is housing,” said Crossroads President Michelle Wilcox. “Having the opportunity to preserve historic properties in some of Providence’s most iconic and history-rich neighborhoods was a top priority for our work because we wanted to prove that affordable housing and historic preservation go hand-in-hand. We hope that our work in Providence can provide a model of best practice for other housing organizations in Rhode Island and across our region.”

The Rhody Awards honor the best examples of historic preservation across Rhode Island each year. All of this year’s winners illustrate the positive impact historic preservation has on our communities—whether addressing the needs of homelessness and affordable housing, boosting Rhode Island’s economy, or preserving neighborhoods and local culture.

KITE Architects led the design of the renovations of the 14 properties. A video detailing Crossroads’ project is available here. Information on all the Rhody Award winners is available here.
