Join us October 1 for Neighbors Helping Neighbors!
Held at Farm Fresh RI in Providence, this impactful evening helps raise critical funds for our neighbors experiencing homelessness across Rhode Island.
Originally constructed in 1915 as a YWCA, Crossroads’ iconic headquarters in Providence is in dire need of repair. 192 formerly homeless adults currently live here in dated, 9x11’ rooms with shared bathrooms and no cooking facilities. The building also serves as an emergency shelter for 41 women, a 24/7 crisis response center, and a training hub for education and employment services.
Inspiring exterior enhancements and other work to help maintain our building are currently underway, including brick cleaning and repointing, which is nearly complete. Additional improvements include exterior lighting, a courtyard to provide much-needed greenspace for residents, and new landscaping.
Interior work will begin in 2025 after current residents have been relocated to new apartments at the nearby Summer Street Apartments. In this phase of the project, the building’s single-room occupancy units will be converted into 82 larger, one-bedroom and studio apartments, each with a private kitchen, bath, and living area.
When complete in 2027, the renovation and development of 160 Broad Street will improve client, staff and public safety, reinvigorate the local neighborhood, and serve as an important signal to our residents and to the community that the people who live here are deserving of respect and dignity.
